Shapiro's Deli macaroni and cheese is newsworthy! Thank you for the mention Mr. Little.
I have personally had family members beg me for the recipe. Many people have requested the Shapiro mac and cheese recipe via e-mail, phone calls, and asking in person.
Sorry folks! It's an old Shapiro family recipe that we are proud to serve every day. Some guests actually request the extra crunchy topping and others just want the creamy middle. Let us know what you like and we'll be glad to serve it that way for you.
That's just ONE of our yummy side dishes. If you haven't had a potato pancake (latke) you are instructed to head for the nearest Shapiro location and order one immediately!

We had the good fortune to be one of several local restaurants serving food at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this week. In the photo is Kelly, Tracy (myself), Allison, and Jennifer, a portion of the catering staff of Shapiro's Deli in Indianapolis and Carmel. The event was the BRICKYARD BASH. Thanks to all who stopped by and enjoyed a corned beef sandwich, delicious garlic pickle, and a gourmet cookie! We had fun and hope we will get to meet more of the local corporate movers and shakers by bringing lunch or dinner to your next meeting or function. Have a great Brickyard weekend and don't forget we are here to make boxed lunches, party trays, or whatever else you need for a fun racing weekend.

If you have ever been to the Carmel deli then you have probably seen Ronda. She has more years at Shapiro's as a manager than anyone else. She has been with the company for 26 years! Ronda is who I call whenever I have questions. How many pounds of this do you need to feed 47 people? Ronda knows. How much produce should I order to make that big catering order? Ronda knows. When is Passover and what special items do I need on the shelves? Ronda knows. In addition, she is my personal guru if I need to know what is trendy right now. She can tell me what other companies are selling, how much they are charging, what the presentation is, how the packaging looks, and whether or not it tastes good. She is also an amazing cook. There is nothing about Shapiro's menu that she doesn't know. She can tell you what temperature, how much salt, when to turn it over, how long it should cool, how to slice it and any other thing you want to know. Ronda knows! On top of all that she makes me laugh out loud whenever I see her. I know Shapiro's is lucky to have her, but I am especially grateful to be working with her. Say "HI RONDA" next time you stop by Shapiro's Deli in Carmel, Indiana!!

Come to Shapiro's in Carmel from 11 to 2 p.m. and order something delicious from the grill. You can even call ahead to place your order so it will be ready when you get there! Relax under the umbrella with a cold drink while you enjoy the aroma coming from the grill. Feel free to sit inside and enjoy the air conditioning if that is what you prefer. You can still order from the grill and eat indoors. We look forward to seeing you soon!

FUDGE FROM NORTHERN MICHIGAN! The absolute best from the people at 45th Parrellel's Candy World in Suttons Bay, Leelanau County, Michigan. Sally Shapiro flies her plane there to bring back the best fudge and it is only available in our Carmel location. Ask for a sample of any of the incredible flavors!
This is a 31 year veteran of Shapiro's Deli. Say "Hi" to Robert! Hired as a busser, Robert is currently working on our serving line at the Carmel deli. He is full of smiles, good cheer, and loves to talk about sports. Robert spent over 20 years in the kitchens of Shapiro's. He takes great pride in serving each and every guest. He has a heart as big as all outdoors and we are so proud that he represents Shapiro's Deli!

On the left is Carl, a manager who has worked at Shapiro's Deli for 23 years. He started as a busser, worked 9 years in the kitchen, and knows just about everything there is to know about the food, the building, the equipment, and the customers! Carl is from Jackson, Kentucky, a good old boy who has more energy than most of the "young folks". Carl NEVER misses a day of work and in fact, he comes in on holidays to make sure that none of our equipment takes a day off. Most weekdays you will see Carl working the meat slicer, calling "young man" and "young lady" to everyone in line.
On the right is Laura, who happens to be my lovely daughter. She has worked at Shapiro's Deli downtown and in the Carmel deli for the last 6 years. She is currently pursuing a degree in Psychology at Butler University and will be a senior in the coming academic year. Laura is pretty quiet but super efficient. She works part time in our office, along with serving customers as a Deli Clerk and prep person in our "salad" department. Carl has known her since she was 6 years old! We call him "uncle Carl" at my house and Laura has learned a lot from him. They really work great together.
Hey, did you see those yummy cakes in the display case behind them? You won't find any better cheesecakes in Indianapolis! Come in for a cake and be sure to say "Hi" to Carl and Laura!
This is a great photo taken by Sally Shapiro, showing the beginning of the serving line at our downtown deli. It is a great view and represents the efforts of the bakers working throughout the night, along with the morning staff who comes in at 5:30 to begin preparations for the day. Pots will be boiling in the kitchen with soups, meats, vegetables, and noodles; lettuce will be crisping in the sink; fruit will be washed and hand cut; cakes will be frosted; cheesecakes will be topped with whipped cream; rye bread will be baking; and the garlic dill pickles will be cut into spears before some of you have left your house in the morning. This serving line will be emptied and filled many times in its 13 1/2 hour shift! The dishes will be washed and sanitized many, many times throughout the day and evening. The closing manager will put the restaurant "to bed" at night and then we will begin the process again each morning 363 days a year. Thanks for coming to our house! Please stop by again soon!
