This is a great photo taken by Sally Shapiro, showing the beginning of the serving line at our downtown deli. It is a great view and represents the efforts of the bakers working throughout the night, along with the morning staff who comes in at 5:30 to begin preparations for the day. Pots will be boiling in the kitchen with soups, meats, vegetables, and noodles; lettuce will be crisping in the sink; fruit will be washed and hand cut; cakes will be frosted; cheesecakes will be topped with whipped cream; rye bread will be baking; and the garlic dill pickles will be cut into spears before some of you have left your house in the morning. This serving line will be emptied and filled many times in its 13 1/2 hour shift! The dishes will be washed and sanitized many, many times throughout the day and evening. The closing manager will put the restaurant "to bed" at night and then we will begin the process again each morning 363 days a year. Thanks for coming to our house! Please stop by again soon!
