KOSHER STYLE JEWISH FOOD IN INDIANAPOLIS

Saturday, December 10, 2011 by Tracy Fiddler
Shapiro's Deli is proud to be one of the TOP TEN DELIS IN THE COUNTRY according to USA TODAY.  This is the place to go if you are looking for well known Jewish style food.  Start with our one-of-a-kind corned beef, cooked early every morning in a huge kettle until it is just right.  Servers hand trim the meat and it is sliced for you as you order.  Pair this with our warm Shapiro rye bread, hand sliced.  Potato pancakes (latkes) make a perfect side dish.  Some people like them with applesauce, some with sour cream, and some with nothing at all.  You might also want to try our cabbage borscht or matzo ball soup.  The mazto balls are made from scratch and are everything you would ever want in a matzo ball!  How about a chopped liver sandwich?  It is quite popular on rye bread with a slice of onion.  Step over to the bakery counter and sample the Rugulach.  This hand-made pastry is available in apricot, raspberry, chocolate and cinnamon.  Most folks order a variety because they are all so delicious!  If you are looking for the best place to nosh, look no further than Shapiro's Deli in Indianapolis and Carmel, Indiana.

WE ARE FAMILY

Wednesday, November 30, 2011 by Tracy Fiddler
Shapiro's Deli is family owned and operated since 1905.  Brian Shapiro is the fourth generation and current owner of Shapiro's Deli in Indianapolis and Shapiro's Deli in Carmel, Indiana.  The delicious offerings on the menu have been handed down from past generations, who arrived in the United States from Odessa, Russia at the turn of the century.  Lots of things have changed in this world.  The economy makes running a business more difficult every day, but the best things in life are produced by the hard working family owned businesses in this country and Shapiro's Deli is proud to be among them.  In addition to the Shapiro family heritage we have generations of employees working too.  Wives, sisters, sons, daughters, cousins, you name it - we have it!  Yes, Shapiro's Deli is family owned and proudly teaching our future generations the value of good food, hard work, and how to nosh with the best of them! We celebrate our staff this holiday season!

INDIANA BASKETBALL WEEKEND

Friday, April 1, 2011 by Tracy Fiddler
It is Women's NCAA Final Four weekend in Indianapolis!  Playing in their home state will be the NOTRE DAME IRISH taking on the Connecticut Huskies.  Games will be played at Conseco Fieldhouse, which is just minutes from Shapiro's Deli Downtown.  There are MANY, MANY other activities going on throughout the weekend before the championship game on Tuesday evening.

The  BUTLER BULLDOGS will be playing in Houston on Saturday and I'm sure there will be a hush in the city of Indianapolis as everyone watches this game.  My daughter happens to attend Butler and will be working at Shapiro's on Saturday - keeping one eye on the game.  We will definitely have the restaurant television tuned in to the Butler game!

Whether you are in Indy enjoying the Women's Final Four or relaxing at home to watch the Bulldogs, put Shapiro's Deli in your plans.  We are open and cooking lots of kosher style comfort food for you to nosh on.  Order a party tray and have a basketball party.  You just need to provide the big screen TV!  We will do the rest.

YES WE HAVE A CHILDREN'S MENU

Saturday, January 1, 2011 by Tracy Fiddler
Looking for a place with a great Children's Menu in Indianapolis?  Shapiro's Deli has always enjoyed the fact that generations of families come to nosh together on special occasions.  Children 12 years and younger are invited to order from our Children's Menu.  We offer great kosher style sandwiches in a child's portion along with one side dish for $3.95 plus tax.  If they aren't ready for a full meal you can get just the entree for only $2.95 plus tax.  They can also choose a hot dog, corn dog, spaghetti, chilled cheese sandwich or chicken.  There are plenty of sides to choose from too - macaroni and cheese, jello, applesauce, potato salad, fruit cup, green beans and many others.  People tell us every day how they used to come to Shapiro's when they were kids and it remains a part of their fondest memories of family and good food.  So bring the kids next time!  We also have high chairs and booster seats for the little bitty ones.  Hope to see you soon!

ATTENTION WEIGHT WATCHERS

Saturday, December 11, 2010 by Tracy Fiddler
As a new member of Weight Watchers, I just want to tell everyone that you CAN enjoy good food even when you are watching your weight.  If you are looking for a place to nosh in Indianapolis, stop by Shapiro's Deli.  There are plenty of options for those who are following the new Points Plus Weight Watcher program.  We have lots of fresh fruit - which are now ZERO points!  I have often enjoyed a 6 ounce chopped steak dinner with green beans, onions, and a side of fruit.  This is a 10 point meal, which leaves plenty of room for the rest of your day if you are on the 29 minimum daily points.  Our sandwiches are approximately 6 1/2 ounces of meat.  Look up the points value in your Pocket Guide for the meat you choose.  Feel free to order a sandwich with no bread if that works for you.  Another favorite of mine is the made-from-scratch vegetable soup.  One bowl is approximately 6 points.  With two packets of Saltine crackers you only spend 8 points total on this filling and healthy meal.  There are plenty of salads to choose from with fat-free dressing options.  It costs me a few extra points, but I frequently have the Caesar salad with chicken for lunch.  There is about 4 ounces of chicken, about 1/4 cup of swiss cheese, and a small amount of croutons.  These all have point values in your Pocket Guide.  If you are having breakfast we offer Egg Beaters or Egg Whites, which are a healthy alternative to whole eggs.  It is a challenge to work at one of the best delis in Indianapolis, but thanks to the kosher style food choices I just have to make wise choices.  I will leave the dessert choice up to you!  You'll have to figure out whether or not you can fit this into your program.  Good luck to everyone!

COMING SOON - A TURKEY NEAR YOU!

Friday, October 15, 2010 by Tracy Fiddler
Shapiro's will be offering a Complete Turkey Dinner for 6 to 8 people beginning soon.  We will announce the date as soon as we verify our turkey delivery.  It will certainly be available before Thanksgiving and then we will offer it through the rest of 2010.  The turkey dinner includes one whole turkey with gravy, dressing, and three additional sides of your choice.  You can view our on-line carryout menu to review your side options or call one of our locations to speak to a Shapiro's representative.  We also include rye bread or egg buns.  You provide the dinnerware and wash the dishes!  The price is $69.99.

Shapiro's Deli will be closed Thanksgiving Day.  If you order a meal for Thanksgiving Day, you will need to pick it up the day before and we will send you home with full re-heating instructions.  If you order it for any other day, we'd be happy to have it hot and ready for you!

Oh yes, we will be turning the clocks back on November 7th, raking leaves, eating turkey and then getting ready for the December holidays.  Keep Shapiro's on your speed dial!  We are the place to nosh in Indianapolis.

Sunday, September 19, 2010 by Tracy Fiddler
Summer is nearly over, the kids are back to school, Labor Day has passed, and now it's time to re-focus on our jobs, careers, and daily activities.  Shapiro's Deli is here to help with your business catering needs and events.  We have a great variety of party trays that are easy to set up for your events.  Our morning pastry trays are very popular with bagels, Danish, croissants and all the fixings.  The Deal Maker Nosh Tray (our meat and cheese tray) can feed your group a hearty lunch and we throw in all the bread, paper goods, and sides.  We can also set up a great buffet of our old fashioned comfort food.  Meatloaf, baked chicken, stuffed cabbage...whatever makes you happy.  For those times when you need to have a little convenience, we package a wonderful boxed lunch that includes one of our famous deli sandwiches (corned beef or pastrami anyone?), a gourmet cookie, bag of chips, apple, pickle spear and a drink.

If you are looking for a restaurant in Indianapolis that delivers - call Shapiro's Deli.  We will bring the food to your door, set everything up and make sure you are well taken care of at your event or meeting.
