KOSHER STYLE JEWISH FOOD IN INDIANAPOLIS

Saturday, December 10, 2011 by Tracy Fiddler
Shapiro's Deli is proud to be one of the TOP TEN DELIS IN THE COUNTRY according to USA TODAY.  This is the place to go if you are looking for well known Jewish style food.  Start with our one-of-a-kind corned beef, cooked early every morning in a huge kettle until it is just right.  Servers hand trim the meat and it is sliced for you as you order.  Pair this with our warm Shapiro rye bread, hand sliced.  Potato pancakes (latkes) make a perfect side dish.  Some people like them with applesauce, some with sour cream, and some with nothing at all.  You might also want to try our cabbage borscht or matzo ball soup.  The mazto balls are made from scratch and are everything you would ever want in a matzo ball!  How about a chopped liver sandwich?  It is quite popular on rye bread with a slice of onion.  Step over to the bakery counter and sample the Rugulach.  This hand-made pastry is available in apricot, raspberry, chocolate and cinnamon.  Most folks order a variety because they are all so delicious!  If you are looking for the best place to nosh, look no further than Shapiro's Deli in Indianapolis and Carmel, Indiana.

HAVE A SUPER DAY!

Sunday, October 16, 2011 by Tracy Fiddler
Every business in Indianapolis and the surrounding area is gearing up for Super Bowl 2012...and if they are not, they should be!  We are studying our Indiana history, learning about amenities available in our city, and trying to figure out how everything is going to come together!
icva The Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association is a great source of information.  Their Fall 2011/Winter 2012 Visitor Guide is packed with information!  We are not too shy to mention that Shapiro's Deli is recommended on page 14 as one of the places you "Can't Leave Town Without..."  Shapiro's Corned Beef Sandwich is touted as a "mile high stack of tender thin-sliced corned beef.  Don't even think of asking for it on anything but the fresh-baked rye."  We will be sure to wish you A SUPER DAY when you come to visit us in Indy!

CORPORATE CATERING IS FUN

Friday, July 29, 2011 by Tracy Fiddler
We had the good fortune to be one of several local restaurants serving food at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this week.  In the photo is Kelly, Tracy (myself), Allison, and Jennifer, a portion of the catering staff of Shapiro's Deli in Indianapolis and Carmel.  The event was the BRICKYARD BASH.  Thanks to all who stopped by and enjoyed a corned beef sandwich, delicious garlic pickle, and a gourmet cookie!  We had fun and hope we will get to meet more of the local corporate movers and shakers by bringing lunch or dinner to your next meeting or function.  Have a great Brickyard weekend and don't forget we are here to make boxed lunches, party trays, or whatever else you need for a fun racing weekend.brickyard bash

STADIUM VILLAGE FARMERS MARKET

Tuesday, June 14, 2011 by Tracy Fiddler
I have never professed to be a photographer, but here are a few photos from the market tonight.  These are local folks, growing and producing local products.  A few of the vendors are setting up monthly and some weekly.  Be sure to ask about your favorites.  My dog, Zoey, is waiting for the doggie treats which will return next Tuesday night.  Last week I got a bottle of Calypso wine from my favorite wine maker, Dave Smith of Smith's Winery.  I will be sharing that with my sister in St. Louis when I visit in a few weeks.  There was a close call a few weeks ago, when I almost developed a granola addiction!  Stop by, shop, and then come to Shapiro's for a $5 Corned Beef Sandwich, which is our Tuesday night dine-in special in honor of the Stadium Village Farmers Market.  More local produce will be appearing as we get into the growing season.  Stay tuned!

COOKING GOOD EVERY DAY

Friday, March 18, 2011 by Tracy Fiddler
meatloafMEATLOAF!!  Freshly prepared from scratch every day and slowly baked to perfection.  Shapiro's recipes date back to the early 1900's and we maintain that original goodness in everything we do.  Sometimes we run out of meatloaf at midday because we sold all of our lunch portions and the dinner meatloaf's are in the oven.  If you know you need a meatloaf dinner in the late afternoon just call ahead and we'll make sure to save a portion for you.

The same holds true for any menu item that you crave.  Do you love the jalapeno bagels and need a dozen for the weekend?  Just call ahead and we will make sure to have what you need.

Thanks to everyone who celebrated St. Patrick's Day at Shapiro's Delicatessen.  Irish or not, it was a GREAT day for corned beef and cabbage.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY IS THURSDAY

Sunday, March 13, 2011 by Tracy Fiddler
It is NOT St. Patrick's Day unless you stop by Shapiro's Deli and celebrate with THE BEST corned beef and cabbage anywhere!   We will be slow cooking the corned beef, slicing it to perfection, and serving a generous portion with your choice of cabbage, roasted potatoes, macaroni & cheese, spinach, german potato salad, or a potato latke.  Don't forget your 2 slices of warm, hand sliced rye bread!  Stop by the downtown deli before or after the St. Patrick's Day parade - we'll be ready for you.  The Carmel location is open until 9 p.m. if you are out for a late dinner.  Lots of free parking and quick service.  Drive safely!

FOOTBALL PARTIES

Sunday, January 23, 2011 by Tracy Fiddler
The NFL season is nearly over, which makes me very sad.  Although the Colts will not be in the final championship game you can still watch the final games while enjoying some great food from Shapiro's.  Try a Deal Maker Nosh Tray (our famous meat and cheese tray) if you plan to watch the games with your friends and family.  This tray includes corned beef, peppered beef, salami and turkey, along with rye bread, egg buns, celery, carrots, olives, pepperoncinis, and grape tomatoes.  Choose from potato salad, baked beans or cole slaw for your side.  We even send the paper plates, napkins, forks, mustard and mayo!  Everyone can serve themselves and there is no clean up.

If you are more private and prefer to watch the game without a bunch of people around, just settle into the easy chair and enjoy any of your favorite deli sandwiches from Shapiro's Delicatessen.  Pair that with a potato pancake, macaroni & cheese, german potato salad, or any of our other delicious side dishes.  Enjoy that piece of strawberry cheesecake during the fourth quarter!  May I suggest pastrami on rye with swiss cheese and brown mustard?  A corned beef Reuben with thousand island dressing, swiss cheese and sauerkraut, grilled to perfection?

Call ahead and we will have everything ready before kickoff!

EXPANDED CHILDREN'S MENU

Sunday, January 16, 2011 by Tracy Fiddler
pbjWe have expanded our Children's Menu.  Some kids just like what they like, and that means we HAVE to offer Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwiches!  Children's Meals are $2.95 plus tax for an individual entree or $3.95 plus tax for the entree with one side item.

Choose white, wheat, sourdough or rye bread.  They also have a choice of GRAPE or STRAWBERRY jelly.
