CATERING SERVICES

Okay, I have no shame.  Have camera, will request a photo.  This is Andy Granatelli, also known as Mr. Indy 500, CEO of STP and all around racing legend!!  He is a gracious guest and we look forward to seeing him every year at race time.  He takes his guests to many of the best known Indianapolis local restaurants and we are proud to be one of them!

Which brings me to catering services.  Boxed lunches are a racing season staple here in Indianapolis.  You can get them all over town but no one has our famous Shapiro's Deli sandwiches.  Brickyard is approaching.  Call us to place an order.

WHAT IS CORNED BEEF?

If you are looking for Corned Beef in Indianapolis there is really no other place to look than Shapiro's Deli.  Many of our guests are world travelers, whether for pleasure or military service, and they are quick to tell us how much the appreciate our corned beef.  I have been told more than once that Shapiro's has the best "in the world".  There are a lot of young people, however, who don't really know what "corned" beef is all about.

Corning is a way of curing; it has nothing to do with corn!  The name comes from Anglo-Saxon times before refrigeration.  In thoses days, the meat was dry-cured in coarse "corns" of salt.  Pellets of salt, some the size of kernels of corn, were rubbed into the beef to keep it from spoiling and to preserve it.  Today brining - the use of salt water - has replaced the dry salt cure, but the name "corned beef" is still used, rather than "brined" or "pickled" beef.

SOMETHING YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT SHAPIRO'S DELI

Reubens?  Of course.  Corned beef and pastrami?  Well known.  Matzo Ball Soup?  None better.  But did you know we have the best bagels anywhere around?  Upward of a dozen flavors, Shapiro's locations produce fresh baked bagels every night.  Bakers are literally clocking in at midnight to prepare the day's quota of bagels for our Carmel, Indiana location, our Indianapolis Restaurant and our wholesale customers.  Yes, we sell bagels to quite a few local establishments.  Bet you didn't know that!

Why are our bagels the best?  Traditionally bagels are boiled but at Shapiro's Deli they are steamed, which produces a much better product.  You won't have to worry about a tough, chewy bagel.  Ours are light and delicious.  Not to mention bigger and better!

If you are like the rest of us who have no time for breakfast, check out our Pastry Tray at www.shapiros.com.  Treat your co-workers to a bagel or Danish from Shapiro's.  It will make your whole day a little brighter.
